Race to the Top
Race to the Top is the U.S. Department of Education’s $4.35 billion effort to dramatically re-shape America’s educational system to better engage and prepare our students for success in a competitive 21st century economy and workplace.
The Race to the Top state competition is designed to reward states that are leading the way in comprehensive, coherent, statewide education reform across four key areas:
- Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace and to compete in the global economy;
- Building data systems that measure student growth and success, and inform teachers and principals about how they can improve instruction;
- Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals, especially where they are needed most; and
- Turning around our lowest-achieving schools.
Ascend Math supports the Objectives of Race to the Top in the following ways.
- Utilizes web based technology to build standards-based data driven individual instructional paths.
- Proven success in increasing student achievement, decreasing the achievement gaps across student subgroups
- Prepares students for rigorous STEM activities.
- Proven success in reaching Special Ed students, English language learners and students at-risk to dropout.
- Promotes the continuous use of student data (such as formative, interim, and summative assessments) to inform and differentiate instruction in order to meet the academic needs of individual students.
- Establishes clear goals that closely monitor a student’s math performance through in-depth /timely assessments and has a comprehensive reporting system to track progress
- Provides automated accountability reporting to measure student growth and success.
