Recently, I came across a fascinating blog from Peter DeWitt, a teacher who has had a change of heart concerning learning styles. Below is a quote from Peter’s blog entitled The Myth of Learning Styles.

“The reality is that learning styles is still a widely held belief in schools. Perhaps it makes teachers feel that everyone can learn…which we know they can… but it also creates an easy fix for students who struggle. There really aren’t easy fixes. Students, whether they struggle or not, need a multi-modal approach.”

I could not agree more. There are no easy fixes.  By presenting a multi-modal approach to each math objective we give students the best opportunity to “get it.” That is one of the principals upon which Ascend Math is founded and why it has been so successful in helping students who struggled find success in math.

Peter’s blog post is a short read and well worth your time.
